SRDC Grower Innovation Awards - Apply now
Sugarcane growers are encouraged to apply for an SRDC Grower Innovation Award. SRDC will recognise the outstanding work by growers across four categories.
Grower Group Innovation Award ($3,500) - Outstanding achievement by a group of growers who have completed an innovative research project.
Grower Group Progress Award ($3,500) - Progress achieved by a group of growers who are currently undertaking a research project.
Grower Service to Industry Award ($1,500) - An individual grower who provides outstanding leadership and service to the sugarcane industry.
Project Supporter Award ($1,500) - An individual who has provided development and extension support to growers to deliver an innovative research project.

Evaluating alternative irrigation methods for a greener future
The Mulgrave Area Farm Integrated Action group (MAFIA) has been leading an SRDC funded Grower Group Project in the Burdekin to assist growers to tackle water issues head-on. As well as seeking a long-term improvement in water quality and groundwater management, this SRDC funded project has been shedding some light on the best options for irrigation in the future. SRDC seminar - Cutting greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen use - 13 Feb 2012
A collaborative research project in Mackay has been investigating ways for cane growers to cut nitrogen fertiliser costs and greenhouse gas emissions. BSES Senior Research Agronomist Dr Barry Salter and DERM Principal Scientist Dr Weijin Wang will present preliminary findings from their research at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane from 12:00 noon. National Sugarcane Industry RD&E Strategy
The National Sugarcane Industry RD&E Strategy was approved by industry and the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Senator the Hon. Joe Ludwig and the Primary Industries Ministerial Council in September 2010. This strategy sets out four goals and 10 themes as identified by both Government and industry stakeholders during development. Read full report
